Selenium
Introduction:
Selenium is a trace mineral that is essential to good health, assisting in the function our immune system, reproduction, and thyroid hormone metabolism. Breads, brazil nuts, fish, meat and eggs are good natural sources of selenium
Key Benefits:
Immune system's function,
Assists with the absorption of thyroid hormones from the bloodstream into the cells, which may in turn speed up your metabolism.
Body's antioxidant defence system, preventing damage to cells and tissues.
Cons:
Excess consumption of Selenium can result in a condition that can lead to loss of hair, skin and nails.
Taking .35mg or less a day of Selenium supplements is unlikely to cause harm
Suggested Serving Size:
The recommended daily allowance of Selenium can easily be achieved through a balance and healthy diet, however when taking multiple supplements, take note of the amounts of selenium(if any) within each product, as excess selenium supplementation can be toxic.
0.075 mg a day for men (100g Tuna Steak)
0.06 mg a day for women (200g Lentils)
