Choline
Introduction:
Choline is a water soluble essential nutrient. We need choline to be healthy, our bodies are unable to create sufficient levels, hence it must be gained from our diets in order to sustain adequate and health levels. Widely available from a variety of foods, whole grains, meats, fish, and eggs are good natural sources.
Key Benefits:
Assists with memory and muscle control
Helps prevent fat and cholesterol buildup in the liver
Assists in maintaining homocysteine levels, having high levels of homocysteine impairs blood vessels, which increases the formation of plaque in your arteries, which heightens the chance of heart disease.
Cons:
Excessive consumption of Choline may result in fishy body odor, sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, and drop in blood pressure.
Deficiencies in choline can result in fatty liver, a condition where fat accumulates in the liver- resulting in liver damage, liver cell death, and damage to DNA.
Suggested Serving Size:
Adults – 3.5g
