Posted by First Protein | ON 27th October | 0 commentsSupplement Name:
Calcium
Introduction:
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body and is found in most food, but is more potent in diary based products. Calcium is required for muscle contraction, blood vessel expansion and contraction, hormone and enzyme secretion and nervous system impulse transmission.
The body maintains a constant concentration of calcium within the blood, muscle and intercellular fluids, but most calcium is stored in the bones and teeth.
Key Benefits:
Calcium is important for strong bones and teeth, regulated muscle contraction (including heartbeat) and helps the blood clotting process. Studies suggest that calcium also helps reduce blood pressure and helps protect against colon and breast cancer.
Cons:
Short term Calcium deficiency has no significant side effects, however long term deficiency can be fatal. Excessive consumption of calcium may lead to stomach pain and diarrhea.
Suggested Serving Size:
Adults require 700 mg per day.
Brands:
Osteocare, Holland & Barrett
