Beta-Alanine
Introduction:
Beta-Alanine is a non-essential naturally occurring beta amino acid. Beta-alanine is not believed to be used in the building of proteins. Sources include carnosine, anserine and balenine which can be found in chicken, beef, pork and fish.
Key Benefits:
Supplementation of beta-alanine has been shown to increase the concentration of carnosine () in muscles, decrease fatigue in athletes and increase total muscular work done.
Cons:
Excessive consumption of beta-alanine may cause paraesthesia (tingling, prickling and numbness if a persons skin with no long term physical effects).
Suggested Serving Size:
Loading Phase (days 1-5): 1.5g four time daily with water of juice
Maintenance Phase (days 6- 35): 1.5g two time daily with water or juice
